 | 7 LCA (2) 2002 | | The value debate is addressed. Between the two approaches
of subjectivity and objectivity, there are the normative values and
rules which are codified in some way (conventions), for example
the codification by the UN in the 'Universal Declaration of Human
Rights', or the conventions derived from the United Nations
Conference for Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de
Janeiro in 1992 (Earth Charta, the formulation of priorities). 'There
is no doubt that these normative values should be used for valuating
global issues'.1 See also 'The Value Debate: Ecodesign in a Global
Context – Are there differences in global values and do they matter?'
