6 LCA (1) 2001

In the general discussion of the 8th LCA Case Studies Symposium (Brussels, November 30, 2000), Sarah Cowell coined the picture of the 'two LCA-planets', where the session on uncertainty and data quality represented the one 'planet' and the case studies in the second session the other 'planet' (see the report on pp. 53-54). This started a very lively exchange which concluded that both 'planets' are of essential importance, but that one has to distinguish carefully between the actual process of conducting an LCA and the presentation of the results to the relevant decision-makers who have a business background. The Editorial of this issue is subtitled 'Two Planets and One Journal' (see p. 1), which refers to the similar discussion in this journal on LCA methodology papers vs. LCA case studies.
