Front Cover: Land Use in LCA (Subject Editor: Llorenç Milà i Canals) -- This Subject Area celebrates its 1st Anniversary wthin Int J LCA. - No. 1, Vol. 12, 2007 focused this theme with the following articles: (1) Land Use in LCA: A New Subject Area and Call for Papers by Llorenç Milà i Canals (p. 1). -- (2) Key Elements in a Framework for Land Use Impact Assessment Within LCA (Letter to the Editor, Response to Helias Udo de Haes [Int J LCA 11 (4) 219-221 (2006)]) by Llorenç Milà i Canals, Ruedi Müller-Wenk, Christian Bauer, Jochen Depestele, Alain Dubreuil, Ruth Freiermuth Knuchel, Gérard Gaillard, Ottar Michelsen and Bernt Rydgren (pp. 2-4) – (3) Key Elements in a Framework for Land Use Impact Assessment Within LCA by Llorenç Milà i Canals, Christian Bauer, Jochen Depestele, Alain Dubreuil, Ruth Freiermuth Knuchel, Gérard Gaillard, Ottar Michelsen, Ruedi Müller-Wenk and Bernt Rydgren (pp. 5-15). – (4) Assessment of Land Use Impacts on the Natural Environment, Part 1: An Analytical Framework for Pure Land Occupation and Land Use Change by Thomas Koellner and Roland W. Scholz (pp. 16-23). -- This issue, No. 1, Vol. 13, 2008, stresses the same Subject Area. The aims of the study on pp. 13-21 are to analyse the mechanisms influencing the long-term land use consequences of changes in crop demand and to propose a methodological framework for identifying these consequences within a global scope. -- The article on pp. 22-31 presents a methodology for including land use impact on biodiversity in LCIA and provides a case example from forestry operations in Norway. -- The main objective of the paper on pp. 32-48, which is the 2nd part of the study published in No. 1, Vol. 12, 2007 (pp. 16-23, see above), is to develop generic characterization factors for land use types using empirical information on species diversity from Central Europe, which can be used in the assessment method developed in the 1st part of this two-part article. -- Cover design: Edwin Grondinger, abavo GmbH, Nebelhornstraße 8, 86807 Buchloe, Germany (edwin.grondinger@abavo.de; www.abavo.de)
