organized by IUSS (International Union of Soil Sciences) and held in
Bangkok, Thailand, August 14–21, 2002. On the occasion of this event,
the IUSS Council has selected JSS to become a 'Cooperating Journal
of IUSS'. Prof. Winfried E.H. Blum (Institute of Soil Sciences, University
of Vienna, Austria), the past Secretary General of IUSS, has accepted
to join the board of co-editors of JSS to work out a mutually beneficial
