She is Associate Professor of Agrochemistry at the
Soil, Plant and Environmental Sciences Department of the Federico II University, Naples. During the
academic years 1990/91, 1994, 2002 and 2003 she carried out research work at the following institutes
using grants from CNR, the British Council and UNINA: - Plant and Soil Science Department of Aberdeen
University (Scotland) - Macaulay Land Use Research Institute of Aberdeen (Scotland) - Microbiology
Department of Cordoba University (Spain) - CNRS Research Unit 'Hydrogéologie, Argiles, Sols et
Altérations' (HydrASA) Poitiers University (Francia). Since 2002, she has been part of the scientific
committee of the PhD school in 'Assessment and Mitigation of Environmental Risk'. Since 2000 she has
been President of the VII Soil Mineralogy Commission of the Italian Society of Soil Science, leader of the
Italian Standardisation Committee for Soil Mineralogical Analysis and member of the Technical Committee
for Contaminated Soils and Sites of the Italian Society of Soil Science. From 14th to 16th November 2002
she organised the 'Giornate di Lavoro: Campionamento e Analisi dei suoli di siti contaminati' conference in
collaboration with ARPACampania. She has led various environmetal monitoring projects ('Accertamento e
valutazione dell'inquinamento da metalli pesanti di suoli di siti industriali dismessi e di aree agricole della
Regione Campania' - Programma Operativo Plurifondo (POP), 1998/1999 - Regione Campania; 'Licheni e
muschi come biomonitors della contaminazione da metalli in traccia nell'area metropolitana di Napoli' - L.R.
41/94, 1999). She took part in the MIUR Project 2002-2003: 'Definition of an integrated monitoring
methodology for air heavy metal pollution'. She currently runs projects on heavy metal soil contamination
(Progetto Operativo Nazionale 2002-2005 'Piattaforme Evolute di Telecomunicazioni e di Information
Technology per l'Offerta di Servizi al settore Ambiente' and the MIUR Project 2006-2007:
'Micromorphological and microanalytical study of the trace metal and organic contamination of urban soils').
Prof. Adamo has written and co-written over 50 scientific works, mainly on the following themes: - Lichens
and mosses as rock weathering agents and biomonitors of air quality - Assessment and evaluation of heavy
metal soil contamination - Soil-plant interactions - Physical, chemical and mineralogical characterisation of
volcanic soils. She carries out review work for Environmental Pollution, The Science of the Total
Environment, Water, Air and Soil Pollution, Journal of Microscopy, Talanta, Biogeochemistry e Geoderma.
