Dr. Shabbir H. Gheewala is an associate professor at the Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE), King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, Thailand.

He has been teaching life cycle assessment (LCA) at JGSEE for more than 6 years. He has also taught LCA at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Kasetsart University, Thailand, for several years.

His research focuses on environmental assessment of alternative (renewable) energy systems using LCA as the tool.

His current projects are on environmental assessment of biodiesel and bioethanol, and energy production from agricultural wastes such as bagasse and rice husk, and also municipal solid waste. Prior to this, Dr. Shabbir has done research for about 8 years in the field of biological wastewater treatment. He obtained his PhD in environmental engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in 2001.
