Curriculum Vitae:
Graduated from Wuhan University in 1982. Studied in Marine Mammal Research Program of Texas A&M University at Galveston in USA for doctor dissertation from 1990 - 1993 under a China-America Joint Program, and was issued doctor degree in 1993 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
Appointed as Research Professor and Director of the Department of River Dolphin Research in 1996 by the Institute of Hydrobiology of CAS, and as deputy director of the Institute in 1999 by CAS.
Main research interests include: aquatic animal behavior, ecology and conservation biology of baiji, Yangtze finless porpoise, and some other small cetaceans.
Received
- the second prize of the Advanced Scientific and Technological Award of Hubei Province in 1988,
- the third prize of Advanced Scientific and Technological Award of the Country in 1989,
- the first prize of the President Scholarship of CAS in 1989, WWF Prince Bernhard Scholarship for Nature Conservation in 1991,
- the second prize of the Youthful Scientist Award of CAS in 1993.
Published more than ninety scientific articles and two books (co-authored).
