The Geneva-based firm produces, and markets, water treatment chemicals, specifically flocculants, for industrial and municipal applications. Hunkeler continues his work on environmental management, both within the firm and as chairman of SETAC Europe´s Working Group on Life Cycle Costing II.
He obtained a Bachelors in Engineering and Management from McMaster University (Canada) in 1984 and a Ph.D. in Polymers in 1990. Between 1990 and 1996, he was an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering, Management of Technology and Materials Science at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Until 2002 he was Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne.
His research includes case studies on life cycle costing, and the development of Societal Life Cycle Assessment as well as a Societal LCI database.
