| Curriculum vitae: | Dr. Gilbert C. Sigua is a Research Soil Scientist at the United States Department of
Agriculture -Agricultural Research Services, Subtropical Agricultural Research Station, Brooksville, FL., U.S.A.
His educational background includes Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Soil Fertility and Chemistry) in the Philippines and a Master of Science Degree (Soil Chemistry/Biochemistry) at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR, U.S.A. He obtained his Ph. D in environmental soil chemistry from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA., U.S.A.
He is responsible for research on identifying spatial and temporal variations within fields and watersheds impacted by livestock and assessing best management practices (BMPs) to reduce nutrient loading of water supplies and to increase water and nutrient use efficiency of subtropical forage. He will determine impact of BMP for monocultures and mixtures of grasses and legumes on dynamics of soil carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus, and effects on ground water nitrate and phosphorus; animal movement patterns on nutrient concentration and movement with rainfall events in subtropical pastures; and interaction of forage types and grazing management on carbon, phosphorus, and nitrogen recycling in pastures. |
