MAIN RESEARCH AREAS: soil chemistry and mineralogy (clay mineralogy), related to soil geography, soil genesis and classification, terrestrial ecology and environmental protection, including soil erosion control and land use planning.
More than 350 PUBLICATIONS in scientific journals or as monographs and about 90 technical reports in 9 languages.
Numerous honours and distinctions, among them three honorary doctor degrees.
Past Secretary-General of IUSS.
