Curriculum vitae:Dr. Ph. Garrigues is currently a CNRS Research Director and the Head of the Institute of Molecular Sciences (UMR 5255 CNRS) at the University of Bordeaux I (France). He got a degree of Chemical Engineer at the University Louis Pasteur (Strasbourg) in 1978 received his Ph.D. degree in 1985 in Physical Chemistry at the University of Bordeaux I. He also got a degree in Marine Ecology and Biology in 1979.

His main research interests are the fate and the impacts of organic contaminants in the environment, mainly in aquatic systems, including analytical aspects (chromatographies and spectroscopies) related to their detection. In cooperation with colleagues in toxicology in France and in Europe, he has developed the use of biochemical markers as early warning systems for the evaluation of the ecosystem health of aquatic ecosystems under chemical stressors, through the coordination of large EU funded research projects (BIOMAR, http://www.lptc.u-bordeaux.fr/Biomar/Default.htm and BEEP, http://www.lptc.u-bordeaux.fr/beep ).

He has authored about 150 publications.
Dr. Garrigues is the french representative in the Division "Chemistry and the Environment" of the Federation of the European Chemical Societies (FECS) and Division Chair since January 2003. He has been the President of ISPAC (International Society of Polycyclic Aromatic Compounds; 1997-1999) and member of Board of the SETAC-Europe (Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry ; 1996-1998). He chaired International Symposia on Polycyclic Aromatic Compounds (ISPAC) (Bordeaux ; 1991 and 1999; 200 participants) was the Scientific chair of the 8th SETAC-Europe Meeting (Bordeaux, 1998; 1200 participants) and the chair of the 9th FECS Conference/2nd SFC Meeting on Chemistry and the Environment (Septembre 2004, Bordeaux, 300 attendees ).

He is also member of various scientific committees at the national and european levels dealing with analytical, toxicological and environmental aspects. He also presently serves as editor-in-chief for the journal Polycyclic Aromatic Compounds (Taylor and Francis) , editor of the journal Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry (Springer Verlag) and is member of the editorial boards of various international journals dealing with analytical and environmental chemistry.
