Jos Brils is the initiator and coordinator of the European Sediment research Network SedNet.
He is senior project manager at TNO-MEP in The Netherlands and has more then 10 years experience in the ecotoxicological assessment (Triad approach) and monitoring of contaminated sediment, effluent, surface water and soil.
His specific key expertise is bioassays and Toxicity Identification Evaluation (TIE). Jos Brils developed tiered decision frameworks for the cost-effective, ecotoxicological monitoring of contaminated surface water and of contaminated sediment.
As expert ecotoxicologist, he participated in several national and international scientific advisory boards on soil and sediment issues. He has given numerous presentations on ecotoxicological issues at national and international workshops, conferences and symposia. He is member of the board of editors of JSS. | | Areas of interest: | | sediment management at the river basin scale | | standardisation & harmonisation | | soils | | sediment & dredged material | | risk management and communication | | ecotoxicological risk assessment | | biomarkers | | bioavailability of contaminants | | bioavailability & behaviour | | bioassays | | |
