After having graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Environmental Management of Hazardous Materials from Deakin University, Karli completed her Honours year.
She then began at the Centre for Packaging, Transportation and Storage at Victoria University as LCA Researcher (Nov 1996-Oct 2002) working on behalf of the Co-Operative Research Centre for International Food Manufacture and Packaging Science.
In 1998, Karli began her PhD at Victoria University titled ´Environmental life cycle costing in the Australian food packaging supply chain´ where she undertook a qualitative case study involving 27 Australian food and packaging companies. She got her PhD at the end of 2002.
