Uwe Herpin holds a M.Sc. in Biology from the University of Osnabrueck, Germany. In 1997 he got a PhD in Nature Sciences from the University of Osnabrueck, where he worked on the use of mosses as bioindicators for heavy metal deposition. Following a research assitant position at the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources, Germany he realized in 1999 a scientific exchange between Germany and Brazil. Since this time he is involved as a Research Associate at University of Sao Paulo, Brazil in various projects on Biogeochemistry after land use changes and reuse of treated wastewater on agricultural soils.
