In 1995 I made my exam on fish ecology of Lake Tanganyika (East Africa) based on field data collected in Burundi at the Belgian research centre CRRHA (Regional Research Centre in Applied Hydrobiology, Bujumbura).
Since 1996 I am working as a scientist at the Centre for Plant Nutrition Hanninghof in Dülmen, Germany, which is the agricultural research institute of the Norwegian company Norsk Hydro.
Until 1998 my focus was on the development of improved fertilizer recommendation systems for farmers.
From 1998 to 2002 I have worked on a Ph.D. project with the aim to adjust the Life Cycle Assessment methodology to the specifics of arable crop production.
Since 2003 my research focus is on the sustainability of arable cropping systems and in particular on the role of mineral fertilizers considering their entire life-cycle (i.e. production, transportation, use). | | Areas of interest: | | resource depletion | | resource consumption | | life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) | | agricultural production | | |
