- 1970-72: postdoc with George S. Hammond at Caltech, Pasadena, USA, in photochemistry
- 1972-74: research in radiation chemistry at Max-Planck-Institut für Strahlenchemie in Mülheim/Ruhr with Dietrich Schulte-Frohlinde
- 1974 - April 2005: Umweltbundesamt (UBA), Berlin
- 1979 - 81: OECD Environment Directorate, Chemicals Division, Paris, worked on Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Test Guidelines
- 1981 - 91: UBA. Chemical databanks and environmental riks assessment of chemicals
- 1991-96: UNEP Chemicals, Geneva: International Register of Potentially Toxic Chemicals (IRPTC), maintenance and training with this chemicals databank. Support of developing countries to build up administrations for dangerous chemicals, a.o. in Venezuela and Ecuador
