Curriculum vitae:Maike Schaefer holds a diploma in biology. She past her PhD in 2004 at the Department of General and Theoretical Ecology at the Center of Environmental Research and Technology (UFT), University of Bremen, Germany. Aim of her research is the assessment of the suitability of different soil organisms (especially lumbricids) for site-specific ecotoxicological monitoring in phytoremediation projects (e.g. crude oil, TNT). Not only the assessment of the toxicity of contaminated soils towards earthworms but also their function in decreasing soil pollution is investigated. In prospective ecotoxicology, she assesses the toxicity of new chemicals (such as e.g. ionic liquids or nanoparticles) with an ecotoxicological test batterie, consisting of different standardised test methods (both terretrial and aquatic).
Areas of interest:
nano particles
earthworm
contaminated sites, removal of organic pollutants
contaminants in soils and sediments
Boden- und Abfalluntersuchungen
bioassays
soil pollution
soil organisms
remediation
ecotoxicology of soils
