Aline Berthold studied biology at the Department of Terrestrial Ecology, the University of Vienna, and at the Department of Zoology (Protozoology), the University of Salzburg. Her master thesis dealt with counting methods of microscopic soil animals and with an ecotoxiclogical field research on the toxicity of heavy metals and dioxins to soil ciliates (Protozoa). Her PhD thesis started with a research fellowship of the PennState University (Pennsylvania, USA), Environmental Resource Management Department, with the aim to develop a terrestrial toxicity test using protozoa. So far she has been teaching at the University of Salzburg and at the University of Vienna in the areas of protozoology and soil biology focusing on soil fauna. For several years, she has been working at the Austrian Federal Environment Agency, and at the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management, in the areas of chemical notification, pesticide registration, and international chemicals policy. | | Areas of interest: | | terrestrial toxicity test | | soil ciliates (Protozoa) | | soil biological processes | | pesticide registration | | heavy metals | | ecotoxicology | | dioxins | | chemicals policy | | biology | | |
