23 October 2003: In addition to the affiliation at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), Gerald Rebitzer has new responsibilities in LCM/LCA/LCC and related issues within the Product Stewardship Program of Alcan (www.alcan.com).

Alcan is one of the world´s leading producers of aluminum metal as well as aluminum products and components (including composites etc.). For the time being, Gerald Rebitzer will be 50% with Alcan and 50% with the EPFL.

Gerald Rebitzer holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Engineering from the Technical University Berlin, Germany. From 1995-96 he worked as a freelance engineer and consultant in waste management. From 1996 to 2001 he was researching in the area of Design for Environment (DfE) at the Technical University Berlin, starting in 1997 as senior research engineer and project manager in method and software development. In Mai 2001 he joined the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology to pursue a Ph.D. Since April 2002 he is a group coordinator within the Life Cycle Systems research team.

He has carried out research in close co-operation with multinational companies as well as SMEs from various sectors including processes (waste water treatment), automotive, electronics, aerospace, appliance, software engineering, aluminum, and construction.

Gerald Rebitzer is Editor of the Section 'Life Cycle Management' in Int J LCA and member of the Editorial Board of the Scientific Journal 'Gate to Environmental and Health Sciences/Life Cycle Management'.

He is active member of the Life Cycle Management Working Group (WG)of the UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative, co-chair of SETAC’s Life Cycle Costing WG and member of the SETAC Europe LCA Steering Committee. He has published more than 60 papers and book chapters to date.
